'Interment of Ashes' means keeping the ashes of a loved one in a permanent place following a cremation.

When a loved one is cremated there are several options for what you can do with their ashes. You can keep them in an urn, or you may choose to scatter them somewhere that’s meaningful.

There are many ways you can remember your deceased loved one, from choosing what to say when spreading ashes to planning the perfect ashes scattering ceremony, the type of ceremony you choose depends on what you know or believe your loved one would have wanted and what will bring the most comfort to those who are in mourning. Planning a ceremony for spreading ashes takes special thought but it's a meaningful and healing process.

Choosing what's right for you!

You may choose to hold a small committal service when interring ashes into a grave, this can be performed by myself as officiant who delivered the funeral service, having a physical place to revisit their loved ones ashes can be an important part of the grieving process.

An Interment of Ashes ceremony is one option for integrating a loved ones ashes into their Celebration of Life; providing a permanent and meaningful burial plot to revisit after the funeral service.

While the law may be on your side, it may be difficult to gain permission to scatter or bury ashes on someone else’s land, it’s important to have the landowner’s permission and certain places are off-limits. Here are a few examples of what can be done:

Private Land – You must obtain permission from the land owner, and you may wish to consider whether or not you would have permission to revisit the site.

Beauty spots – The problems you may face when choosing a beauty spot is that you may struggle for privacy, especially if you are planning a ceremony.

Rivers – The Environment Agency states it is acceptable to scatter ashes in a river as long as you don’t put anything in the river that will not degrade.

At Sea – You can choose to go out on a boat, scatter the ashes at the shoreline or bury them in the sand.

Mountain or Hill Tops – Although the top of a hill or mountain can be an inspiring setting for the scattering of ashes, it’s important to consider weather conditions.
